Fragments
For this task i went away in the holidays and went to places to find what i thought fragments are
My first attempt at fragments
This was my first attempt at fragments for this task i took a photo of anything i thought looked like fragments. Half of it i took a more basic approach and jus took photos of things like broken bottles, and for the second half i was a a museum and took photos of anything that resembled fragments such as lots of random objects or shapes chucked together.
What did you photograph and why

www lots of different creative ideas and understand the task well
ebi take more time with my photos and work on angles
Art gallery
For homework i went to an art gallery and took photos of all the photography i could find, The artest i saw most was Edward Burtynsky. the kind of photos he takes are images of nature creating wired pattens for example the slow og magma at a volcano or water flowing down a hill. in the photos i found online i couldn't find ant of his work but from the photos i did find most of them seem to be images taken from world war times or portrates of people.
i don't want your photos of the exhibition- find the images on line and discuss the work. Who is the photographer?

Building Fragments
Patrick Cornillet response
In this task cornillet isilates an building from its environment. this makes us aware of everyday materials that are basic and boring such as concrete and makes them stand out more.
Attempt one
for this task i was asked to Photograph from a corner to achieve perspective. Make sure that the part you will edit the image to is contained within the frame. There must be space around the part you are photographing.

What was the success criteria you were asked to follow?

www my edits where very accurate and lined well i was able to get all the parts of the image i wanted in whilst removing all the parts not needed. be more technical- what editing skills have you shown? What is good about your selection?
ebi brightness was a bit off and i could of gotten better angles of the building.

Building fragments
Mauren Brodbeck
Brodbeck's aim was to show that some buildings are so boring and basic that it leaves a mental blank to the viewer.

www I chose good images for the task as they are simular to the artists images that he has created himself, i also picked suttible colours to replace the past of the image i covered as it matches the background well. What informed your choice of building, composition etc.
ebi Camera setting where off and i could of been more careful in photoshop when lining the building.

Task 1
Title:
Chris Killip: A Retrospective
Text
Chris Killip photographed people in the north of England. He wanted to document the lives of those affected by the economic downturn of the 70s and 80s.
Killip worked with the communities he photographed. He saw the togetherness of communities and the industries that sustained them. He stayed with them until he witnessed their (lose. He described the people in the deindustrialised north as having had history done to them.

Independent Development
Simon Phipps
Simons work is of brutalist architecture. Brutalist architecture is plain buildings with not much special about them. Simon normally he takes his photos at a upwards angle and then after likes to make his photos in black and white after.
Attempt 1
Best edits
www improved editing skills and took mages from fitting angles used by the artist What did you understand? These are not Brutalist- so shich part of Phipps work did you successfully interpret?
ebi i could of gone to a better area to find brutalist buildings as theres are not really the same as Simons.
ebi i could of gone to a better area to find brutalist buildings as theres are not really the same as Simons.
Development 2
The difference between my second development is that the first time i didn't find any brutalised buildings but for my second i did and went to the barbican. This made a huge difference because i had more options and more to photograph it also changed how i took my photos because instead of jus photographing tall old buildings from a upwards angel instead i can get more done now because i had a bigger variety of things to photograph as there where sum small buildings sum tall and some long so i could take more photos using different angles. How did this alter the way you photographed it?

www followed the artists style well by getting photos in the barbican
ebi focus on the buildings more not the background. More close ups

Threshold
my artist is called keld Helmer-Peterson, his idea was to get photos of buildings at night with lots of bright lights on them and then using the threshold tool it turns the image black and white an makes it looks more graphic, it also makes London look more apocalyptic empty and dark.
What does the threshold effect do to the image- what could this mean? Sinister side of London?

Development 3
Put the unedited images here first. What did you choose them? Screen grab the process
www I balanced black and white well allowing the details of the buildings to be balanced and highlighted in the right place which creates a apocalyptic abandoned affect on the image. I also picked a good location for the image to make it look apocalyptic like this as its a busy area with traffic and then on top of that it was the skyscraper in the background that helps to complete the image and the affect i was trying to create. How do you know if they are successful? What is your success criteria. Eg. what is the balance between white and black? What locations are the best?
ebi would of been better if i went out myself and took photos insted of using old ones
Development 4
this was my first time going out and taking images myself for the threshold task, my past attempt helps me understand what kind of buildings i want and how to get the affect right. this is why i chose a variety of buildings so i could see what works best i also found out from my previous work that the best time to take the images is at night because it takes out all natural light that i cant control and instead use lights from buildings and lamppost which make shine even lighter in the dark. finally i also took photos of tall and short buildings to see what worked best.
What have you learnt from your previous work? How has this informed where you went, at what time etc.

www created a lovely affect making London look really dystopian and apocalyptic which is exactly what i was going for, the way i did this and make it look so good is partly when i took the photo itself making sure it was a good angle and it was a building with a nice vary of lights where there are not to much and not to little and secondly whilst editing i made sure not to overdue it on the affect and over edit. Be more technical. Perspective is good here. What is you r intention? It needs to be more than just the effect. Are you trying to show a different side to London.
ebi should of taken more images using different angles and take more time with my images and zoom out more.

All together my project went well with me struggling at first but very quickly improving my skill and finding ways to make my image look as dystopian as possible such as when i highlighted the sky and would threshold the image in different sections so it all evenly sped the affect to alter the brightens, so all together i was proud of my project as it came out exactly like i wanted it to.
